1. Description and Usage 
The IMX459-AAMV-W is a 6.25-mm (1/2.9-inch) diagonal Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) ToF Depth Sensor with signal-amplifying pixels. It features two readout modes, line mode and array mode, and supports a variety of scanning methods. By arraying a large number of SPADs and summing their outputs, it achieves a measurement distance of up to 300 m. Its light emission timing control function is able to compensate for the delay in timing between laser emission and reception. Its ambient light elimination function ensures that it does not saturate even under sunlight and can achieve distance measurements with a high dynamic range. Equipped with echo and peak detection functions, ranging data output modes, digital signal processing, and more, it is optimized to meet the performance and functionality required by LiDAR.

SONY Semiconductor Solutions' IMX459 is a stacked SPAD depth sensor designed for automotive liDAR applications. It has a resolution of 597 (H) x 168 (V), a 1/2.9 form, and a detection range of 300 meters. The single-chip sensor features a distance measurement processing circuit that provides high-precision, high-speed distance measurement using its 10 μm squared single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) pixel and direct Time of Flight (dToF) method. It utilizes SONY technologies such as backlit pixel structure, stacked configuration, and Cu-Cu connectivity to provide up to 24% light detection efficiency and approximately 6 ns response speed. The image sensor can be controlled via the MIPI CSI-2 serial output 4/2 channel interface.
 
The IMX459 requires 3.3V (analog), 1.1V (digital), and 1.8V (interface) DC power supplies. It comes in a 152-pin plastic BGA package and measures 15.65 x 15.35 mm, making it ideal for autonomous driving (AD) and Advanced Driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications.
