LUX9512 is a 9.5 Megapixel High Speed Global Shutter CMOS Digital Sensor with maximum frame rate of 1333FPS at a resolution of 4096 x 2304. It allows ease of integration and lower system noise with on-chip 12-b ADC, on-chip programmable biases and 128 parallel SLVS outputs. The block diagram for the sensor is drawn in Figure 1.1.

The row drivers are on both sides of the pixel array to generate the pixel control waveforms and apply them to either the row selected by the row decoder or to the entire pixel array for global controls.

 

Analog signal processing circuits are present above and below the pixel array. The Column Amplifiers are responsible for gaining the pixel signal and convert the signal from pseudo-differential to fully differential for the fully differential ADC. The ADC converts the sampled analog signal into 12-b digital stream and stores it into the ADC SRAM. Each Digital Block reads 64 12-bit data from the ADC SRAM at a time and sends it to the high-speed serializer. The serializer serializes 12-bit, 10-bit or 8bit data into 1bit stream and sends it to the SLVS Drivers.

The pixel array arrangement for LUX9512 is shown in Figure 3.1. There are 4096 (H) x 2304 (V) active pixels. There are 4 non-addressable boundary columns on the right edge of the active pixel array and 4 readable boundary columns on the left side of the active pixel array. In LUX9512 there are 4 readable boundary rows above and below the active pixel array. In addition to the active and boundary pixels, there are 124 optical black columns on the left, 12 optical black rows on the top and 12 optical black rows on the bottom of the active pixels. The 4 addressable boundary columns next to the 124 dark columns are read out together when the second dark kernel is selected.

The function of the optical black pixels is to provide the value of a pixel signal in dark. Additionally, if there is row-wise noise or other row-wise artifacts present in the image, the optical black pixel allows the user to reduce this noise by subtracting the averaged dark column values which contains the information on these row-wise noise. The boundary pixels are to improve the image uniformity in the Active Pixel and the Optical Black Pixel areas. Pixel (0, 0) is located in the bottom-left corner of the pixel array. First active pixel (Green for color sensor) has coordinates (128,16).
